Brenda Weston has represented constituency members in the South since 1998. She has been a Labour activist since 1981, having started in the Women's Council, quickly becoming a branch secretary and standing in local elections. She has been a county councillor and group leader, and district councillor in Taunton, Somerset. She worked as a regional and national trade union official for a number of years.

Brenda is a social scientist by trade, having most recently been employed as research and policy officer for a South West equalities charity, and later for Citizens Advice in Somerset. She is committed to facilitating members' participation in the policy process, and promoting equality, diversity and the cause of Labour in our rural and coastal communities. She is the equalities champion for the Transport Policy Commission and recently became a Director of Labour Coast and Country, a campaigning group within the party.
