Now is the time to know -
Which of the following is acceptable in mechanical and human development?
What kind of development does our context demand?
Why is the economy of Sri Lanka destroyed ?
Why have unnecessary development projects destroyed Sri Lanka?
In the last 15 years, Sri Lanka has undertaken several mega projects. Among these, seaports, airports, roads and various other projects have been undertaken.
Rural farmers have been severely affected by the decline in production. As a result, food prices have risen and more foreign exchange has to be spent on food imports.
This situation is not only in Asia but also in many developing countries of the world including Bangladesh. There are such examples in many European countries.
In countries of Europe where such a situation has arisen, the young generation has taken the helm. They have sent money out of the country. And emphasized farming. A great example of this is Lithuania
Lithuania was once a very large country. Most of present-day Belarus and Ukraine were under it. It was born as an independent state in 1918, but was annexed by the Soviet Union in 1940. After the Second World War, it was in operation for almost 4 decades under the communist government. After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the country regained its independence. In 1992, the country's first democratic elections were held.
In the 1990s, the country focused on nationalizing the economy. But the economic downturn, inflation and unemployment problems are getting worse.
We should take up various projects to inculcate a sense of responsibility for humanity, in our new generation. For example, at school and college level, National Day and history should be celebrated widely. All human beings have to build their understanding of the emergency as well.
And in that case the people of Ukraine taught us a lot about how all civilians can become soldiers. How human culture can change. They are protesting. People can stand up against all odds with courage and strength.
