De-armament

Why are we spending so much money on arms when the world is facing at least two major crises, climate change and now a pandemic. We need to wake up and make a de-armament agreement; what is the UN for?  It needs to be demanded week in week out until people (leaders) listen.  If countries don't want to participate in a majority consensus in de-arming, then they should be completely boycotted.
