Housing, Local Government and Transport
The Housing, Local Government and Transport Policy Commission develops Labour policy concerning local government and devolution, housebuilding and the housing sector, and Britain’s transport infrastructure and services.
The Commission meets regularly to consider evidence and submissions, identify challenges, and develop Labour’s policy in these areas. The members of the Policy Commission are drawn from the National Policy Forum, the Shadow Cabinet and the National Executive Committee. Its membership reflects all parts of our movement, including Labour party members, affiliated organisationsand elected politicians.
The Commission will look in detail the topic of putting power in hands of local people as its consultation topic for the coming year. This is a broad topic, including discussion of the types of devolution and the types of powers that should be devolved to different areas, funding local services as well as the role of direct democracy.
We will be publishing a consultation paper in 2018.
